Leupold Binoculars are made in Leupold & Stevens, Inc. It is an American company located in Beaverton, Oregon, United States.

They develop and manufacture optical instruments, which include hunting and shooting scopes, rangefinders, golf rangefinders, telescopic sights, red dot sights, binoculars, spotting scopes, hunting and shooting trail cameras, and eyewear.

This family-owned business was established in 1907 and has been run by five generations to date.

It all started when a German immigrant Markus Friedrich (Fred) Leupold and Adam Voelpel, who had been brother-in-law for eight years and close friends before that, started a business together.

Their company, Leupold & Voelpel made surveying equipment by hand. Shortly thereafter, the company became well-known for its quality service regarding repairs of survey equipment.

In 1911, the company was contracted by John Cyprian (J.C.) Stevens to manufacture a water level recorder, which he had designed and patented. J.C. Stevens invented the first water level recorder, and became a partner when he brought it to the company.

The company was renamed Leupold, Voelpel, and Co. Fred Leupold’s son, Marcus (avid outdoorsman), came aboard as well.

Besides the water level recorder, the company also managed to invent several other innovative pieces of equipment. J.C. Stevens invented the Telemark, a revolutionary water level recorder that uses telephone signals to transmit information.

This helped the company to grow and prosper during the depressed economy of the 1930s.

It is speculated that once Marcus Leupold missed a buck because his scope fogged up. He is said to have sworn that he could make a better scope, which he later did.

In 1942, along with the changing family and company, its name also changed to Leupold & Stevens. In 1944, co-founder of the company, Fred Leupold passed away.

It was finally in 1947 that they made the first fog-proof rifle scope. After World War II ended, the company started making gun scopes.

Leupold then invented the Duplex Reticle, which most riflescopes use currently. After 20 years of inactivity, the company once again started manufacturing binoculars, this time the Golden Ring binocular line.

Currently, Leupold & Stevens delivers its optical products to its customers all around the globe.

The production is done mainly within the United States, while some of its high-quality lenses are imported internationally, most of which come from Europe and Asia.
