As of today, there are hundreds of Mil-Dot scopes in the market.
You may have been overwhelmed by the sheer number of these, and confused as to which one would be the best one for you.
In this short article, I talk about the best Mil-Dot scopes for your needs, but before we actually get into all of that, let’s talk a bit about Mil-Dot scopes.
Mil-Dot is a type of reticle on a rifle scope that uses the sighting tool’s optics and the reticle’s dimensions to predict how much distance a target is away from you.
Mil refers to milliradian which is a unit of angular displacement that is one-thousandth of a radian angle measure.
Choosing a scope whose range-finders are ideal for you is a necessity when you need to work with targets at a long distance from you.

The Vortex Optics Viper is a fantastic durable scope that’s built out of the toughest materials to endure the roughest of conditions.
Built out of a 30 mm main cylinder with a protective finish, the Vortex scope is absolutely wonderful for the price range. You also get windage, holdover as well as range adjustments which can make your task even easier.
On scopes that I take out for hunting, I like having a zero-reset feature on the turrets, and this one has that too. I find that it allows me to quickly switch between targets out on the field.
What I also like about the Vortex Viper rifle-scope is that it also features an intuitive parallax adjustment which does a great job at removing parallax while shooting.
The scope is also resistant to rain, fog as well as unpredictable weather as it’s got Argon sealed inside the closed enclosures. There is also O-ring sealing, so you don’t have to worry about getting the scope damaged by anything really.
For the price, the Vortex Viper SFP riflescope offers excellent value and is definitely something you would want to get!
The UTG 4 – 16 x 44 Mil-Dot scope is a cool-looking scope with many features that make it well worth the price.
You get lockable and resettable turrets that are very easy to get used to, and you can ramp up your shooting speed by a lot.
What I love about this scope is the fact that it has got an Emerald Lens coating which is pretty much the best thing in the market for lenses at the moment. What it means is that you get maximum light transmission with minimum loss of brightness.
I also like that the main tube, which is a 30mm cylinder- has got ample space for adjustments to windage and holdovers.
The UTG Mil-Dot scope is fully waterproof, fog proof, and shockproof thanks to the O-ring seal and Nitrogen filled inside the compartments.
If you are worried about the magnification range, the 4x – 16x range is versatile for all sorts of uses, and I like to think that this scope is good for mid-range to long-range shooting.
Oh, and you also get a sunshade and Flip-open lens cap that come with it, which is awesome.
If there’s one thing that I would like to change about this scope is the size of the scope. It can be rather odd to fit into places but if that doesn’t deter you, you are good to go.
Lastly, I love this scope for the price not only because of the resistance to weather conditions but also because it’s fun to use.
Looking for a Mil-Dot scope with an illuminated reticle? The Pinty 4 -16x 40 is a fascinating scope that has got all the things you need from a budget scope built to last.
You get a magnification range of 4x to 16x which is okay for both mid-range and long-range hunting. What I like about this scope is that it has got a 40 mm objective lens which is pretty wide and allows for more light to pass in than some scope at a comparative price point would.
Built on a 1-inch tube, what you get is a fully waterproof, fog-proof as well as shock-proof scope which is awesome for taking outdoors. It would be stupid to get a scope that will get damaged with the slightest hint of rain as you can half expect weather to be unpredictable while shooting.
The fact that this rifle scope is fully multi-coated also means that you get exceptional light transmission as well as clarity.
When working with targets that are far from you, you will want your scope to take into account the windage as well as drop adjustments. The Pinty 4x – 16x 40 does a great job at this.
What I also like about the Pinty rifle scope is that it has got a modest eye relief at 3.9 inches which is plenty for convenient handling.

Looking for a rifle scope that stands from the crowd? The Bushnell Trophy rifle scope is a fantastic scope that offers unparalleled light transmission and clarity for the price.
You get 91% light transmission which is an impressive spec even for fully multi-coated lenses. The edge-edge clarity on this scope is also something that I really like.
If you like having different options on your scope, you won’t be disappointed by the reticle options (6 in total) and configurations (seven) on the Bushnell scope.
There is also the fast-focus eyepiece feature so you can effortlessly make rapid shots in succession without compromising on precision. You also get ample eye relief at four inches which is enough for most people.
I also like that the Bushnell Trophy rifle scope features a quarter MOA fingertip windage adjustment. This can come in really handy when you are concentrating on making every single shot count.
The magnification range of 3x to 9x is ideal for mid-range to long-range shooting though a bit more inclined towards mid-range targets.
Perhaps, the best thing about this scope is that it comes with a Bushnell Warranty which covers anything that might go wrong while you’re using the rifle scope. Sweet deal!
This is the second UTG scope on this list and for a very good reason.

While most used for Airsoft assault rifles, you could use this scope for pretty much any rifle that fits. The coating on the lenses is Emerald coating that boasts superior light transmission and crisp images.
You also get dual illumination in red and green which I suppose you can put to good use. The image resolution, as well as field of view on this, is awesome, and you also get a fair eye relief.
Talking about durability, the scope is built out of sturdy materials and is filled with Nitrogen so it’s completely rainproof, fog proof as well as shockproof.
I also love that this scope offers a Mil-Dot reticle that is optimized for precision shooting and delivers exceptional quality for the price.

The magnification range is more suited for mid-range shooting than long-range shooting but that shouldn’t deter you from trying out this scope as it’s got a lot to offer for the price.
You also get a fair eye relief that will be more than you need, and honestly, the scope offers excellent value.
I like scopes that don’t give in to recoil while shooting, and I’ve found that the Tasco rifle scope is shockproof and doesn’t cause injury under normal use.
What I also like about this scope is that the objective lens on this is also pretty wide and takes in more light. This also makes it bright even under dim conditions.
Like all the scopes on this list, you get a Mil-dot reticle which can be very useful when shooting.
What you get with the scope are multi-coated lenses that have got an exceptional build quality.
If you would like a scope that lasts for years on minimum maintenance, the Tasco Varmint rifle scope would be the go-to scope in my opinion.

The Trijicon scope is easily one of the best budget offerings that feature fully-multi coated lenses. The fact that the brand has paid much attention to how this scope performs means that you get an exceptional image brightness and a magnification range that will blow you off.
I also love that this scope is good for shooting well above a thousand yards. You also get an illuminated reticle which is ideal for working under low-light conditions as well as a second focal plane that helps ensure that you get a smooth experience while working with all magnification ranges.
You would be surprised to know that this scope has an objective lens of 56mm which is pretty wide compared to what the other scopes are offering. The scope also features an eye relief of 3.5 – 3.9 inches which just adds to the convenience.
There is an Exo Barrier coating on the lens surfaces that helps ensure that there are no scratches on the lenses themselves. Of course, the lenses are fully multi-coated which helps reduce eye strain and deliver high contrast lucid images.
